Can I sleep with a menstrual cup?
Yes, you can sleep with a menstrual cup. And you don't have to get up at night to empty it. A menstrual cup can be used for up to 12 hours at a time, unlike tampons and pads which need to be changed more often. In addition, a menstrual cup will not be felt if it is placed correctly.
In other words, you can sleep undisturbed with your period cup. But before you sleep with the product, there are a few things to consider.
In the evening
Insert the period cup just before going to bed. Remember to wash your hands and make sure that the cup is clean before inserting it.
Wash both your hands and the menstrual cup with soap and water, making sure to remove any soap from the cup.
During the night
If you feel the menstrual cup during the night, it's probably because it's not fitted properly. If it doesn't sit correctly, some people feel it when they lie down or feel that air starts to pass out.
If it is not positioned correctly, there is also a risk of leakage. All you have to do is take it out and try putting it back in.
In the morning
Once you have removed the menstrual cup in the morning, it is important to clean it before using it again. Wash it with mild soap after you have emptied it. You can boil the menstrual cup if you wish or use our cleaning bag. The best thing to do is to carefully read the cleaning instructions for your cup which you can find here.
Just like when you clean the product in the evening, it is important that you rinse the cup so that there is no soap residue or period left.
Last but not least: give it some time! If you haven't used a menstrual cup before, it may take some time to get used to it and feel how to position it. But once you've found the right technique, you'll be able to sleep with it undisturbed.
